Home again - but not for long!

Bulgaria was all I hoped it would be - warm and sunny, great food and local wine to sample, culture aplenty in Nessebar and plenty of chance to catch up on sleep. The area we were in has managed to survive becoming a tourist trap a la English breakfasts and Union Jack boxer shorts - unlike it's neighbour Sunny Beach which we had enough of after about an hour.

One of the days we went on an aptly named 'Lazy Day Cruise' which basically involved lying back in the sun and watching the beautiful scenery go by. I even went in for a swim which was much needed after the heat. It was advertised as a day with Faith, Harmony and Destiny and until we realised these were the names of the three boats that went in convoy, I did wonder what kind of spiritual experience we might be letting ourselves in for!

The last day we were there, we experienced a major thunderstorm - obviously we had gone out in the morning completely unprepared for bad weather so it came as a bit of a shock that it could be as cold as a rainy day in Aberdeen.

Highlights for me would be: exploring the wee town of Nessebar - the cobbled streets (fortunately I'd left the Louboutin heels at home) and wee nooks and crannies that made you never sure exactly what was going to be round the next corner; our shopping and wine tasting day out which was lots of fun and a real education about some of the people who go on package holidays (would you ever go round collecting half empty glasses of wine that others have left behind?!? Or maybe I'm just becoming a snob in my old age lol) ; having the time to sit and relax, read a book, and put the world to rights on the balcony with my friend Janet - usually over a pre-dinner G&T. Hurrah for holiday #1 of my year off - bring on the next one!
